Medical Contact Lenses

Contact lenses are used to aid in people’s vison Whether someone is long or short sighted or reasons such as cataracts. Medical contacts lenses have to be obtained via prescription. An eye test is needed before a prescription can be handed out. Eye refraction is tested to decide the power of the lenses for the patient as each lenses might have a different strength regarding to the patient’s eye. Contact lenses can come in daily, monthly or yearly expiration dates. Monthly and yearly lenses are kept in a case with solution to clean them.  Whether medical or cosmetic the lenses can come in colors to alter eye color. As for medical they are usually clear.

Contact lenses tend to be made out of a silicone and a water gel. This means the lenses can stay wet and wont restrict the eye of oxygen when worn by the patient. These are called soft lenses as the silicone Is a soft plastic.
Hard contact lenses are made of a more rigid plastic material and they don’t have water in them but they transmit oxygen still. Hard lenses are made to the shape of the eye and are less comfortable compared to soft lenses. Hard lenses are rarely used or prescribed in modern days compared to the late 1970s.

Hard and soft contact lenses can have sides effects such as irritated eyes, Blurred vison, light sensitivity and even worse eyesight if the lenses aren’t prescribed correctly or if your eye vision changes due to circumstances.

Its inportant for a makeup artist to know this as an actor may have medical lenses in and if the artist knows they can avoid scratching them when applying eye makeup such as in the waterline or if the actor needs cosmetic lenses.
